baby must haves // leg warmers

baby must haves -- leg warmersWith the arrival of No. 2 I’ve been thinking a lot about what my baby must haves are. (I have also been asked quite a bit by my first time mama to-be friends so I thought I would take this opportunity to write a few posts!) In no particular order lets start .

I love baby leg warmers! I think they are adorable for both boys and girls but my favorite thing about them is they make diaper changing a breeze. Especially in the early months when it feels like all you’re doing is changing diapers they make it so much easier. No need to squeeze a giant diaper butt into tinsy little pants. Because Evie was a summer baby she lived in them. A sweater and leg warmers in on cool mornings and evenings and just a onesie during the day.Ev leg warmersMy favorite brand so far has been Baby Legs – you can usually find them for a pretty good price on baby sale sites (infact I was already doing this post today and what do you know, they’re on sale over here!) They stay up but don’t leave marks, they come in great colors and patterns for both boys and girls and they ware really well (I’ve picked a bunch up at consignment stores and they still look great).Leg warmersSo there you have it, the first on my baby must haves list. Great for your little one or to give as a gift.

in honor of cyber monday (even though I think all this is madness)

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend with your loved ones. I can honestly say, best Thanksgiving ever!

In honor of Cyber Monday I have a new product up in my shop!I am extra excited about this one because it was a collaboration with my very talented brother. We love being creative together and have always wanted to do something like this. This is only the beginning of the prints that we plan to have up and this particular one is pretty special. He and my sister-in-law printed this design on a few onesies for Everly right before they left for Panama (those are their hands). While they were away it was such a sweet reminder of how much they love and missed her. And now we have chosen to share it with you! This would make a great shower or Christmas gift for the little ones in your life. In light of Cyber Monday I am offering my readers 10% off this and all of the products in my shop for the rest of the day. Just use discount code CYBERMONDAY10 at check out. Happy Monday!

quick sweater makeover

Consignment stores are some of my favorite places to buy baby clothes. I just have a hard time paying retail prices for clothes that are so tiny and that will only be worn for a couple of months. One of my favorite things to do is to buy clothes that I see potential in, clothes that I can make a simple adjustment and will look new and unique. I gave these basic sweaters a makeover the other day.Why yes. that is a newborn sweater that my almost 8 month old daughter still fits into…mini.

I don’t really like the typical baby colors that clothes for the little ones often come in. Since the sweaters were basic I decided to switch out the buttons to give them a new look. I have a jar full of buttons from my great grandmother and I thought they would be the perfect way to give these sweaters a face lift. The hardest part was choosing which buttons to use!

Side note: don’t you hate it when you go to start a project and you end up starting a whole other project? All I wanted to do was find the button jar and I ended up unpacking a whole box of glassware left over from the move!I really wasn’t planning on doing more unpacking…anyway, back on track.

Snipped off the old buttons and the new ones!Voila! I love her new sweaters! They look hardly look basic anymore!

a series of unrelated events

Today there is no theme to the post, just a bunch of unrelated thoughts which have absolutely nothing to do with each other. To sum it up these are snapshots of the happenings around here.

We’ll start off with the sad news, I had to buy my first pound of coffee this weekend. First purchased pound ever. Since I can’t remember the last day I went without coffee and I usually brew it at home, you may not believe me. I tell the truth. I worked at Starbucks for just over eight years – yikes! As part of our employee benefits we got a free pound of coffee a week. Before working at the Bux I lived with my parents and drank their coffee. Having the foresight that I would likely stay home after Everly was born, I started stock piling the free coffee. And now, sadly, it has come to an end. We polished off the last one the other day and I had to go out and buy coffee *sniff*. But I’m viewing this as an oppotunity to branch out in my coffee drinking and try new roasters – hopefully a bit more local – this one has always been a family favorite. If you’re ever passing through Sisters, Oregon you really should stop in for a cup.

This was her last happy moment of the night, about a half hour later she came down with a cold. Fever and all, we were up all night. Poor thing.

This is currently my favorite picture of the babe. Isn’t she prettyeverly BWThese guys are almost ready to become a part of some delicious bread. I’ve been keeping an eye on them for the last week!

bananasI finally changed my calendar…it no longer says March. I know what you’re thinking “she probably means it no longer says January, March is next month.” Nope, I mean March, I almost went a year without changing my calendar…don’t worry, its all up here (tapping my head with my index finger).february calendarOh and those tiny hearts are the extent of our Valentines Day acknowledgement around here. I’m really not a fan of the holiday, not in a bitter way, just in an I could live with out it way. I know there are a lot of you that love Love Day and I’m not about to rain on anyone’s parade. Instead of celebrating Valentines Day we have already gone one two baby-less dates this month! Both of which were uncrowded, delightfully spontaneous and plenty meaningful.

Since I’m not a total scrooge, I’ll wrap up this string of thoughts with a few cute ideas that make me consider celebrating Valentines someday.valentines cardv-day cupcakesv-day breakfastspread the loveOk, I’m warming up to it. Have a happy heart day!
